BABBITT for Casting & Spraying
Babbitt is a white metal alloy of tin used for surfacing Babbitt Bearings. Grade 2 (ASTM B23) is now the most common alloy used and is lead-free. 4X Nickel Babbitt is similar but with a little nickel added for higher tensile strength over 300F. Grade 2 and 4X are available in ingots for melting into spin casters. Grade 2 Babbitt is also stocked in wire for flame spraying surface coatings or puddling on bearings
